About the Artist….

A Florida based indigenous contemporary artist, self-taught with works in the digital, acrylic and spray paint mediums. Creating murals, canvas paintings and other pieces integrating cultural and traditional visual aesthetics, resonates a feeling of pride, while highlighting elements such as patchwork designs outside the usual traditional system. Producing the pieces has allowed my work to be displayed throughout Florida from Miami to Tallahassee. Opportunities to exhibit in History Miami Museum in Miami, Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Garden in Winter Park, The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota and Florida State University's Museum of Fine Art in Tallahassee has allowed me to showcase the culture I hold near and dear to my heART.

Artist Statement:

Dear Observer,

My work could be described as a cross between Street art and Native heritage. It is influenced by my culture and community, crafted into a contemporary style. Aiming to encourage a rediscovery and appreciation of our history in a blended mix of modern arts. The simplicity of symbols with bright contrasting colors, translates into bold eye catching, easy to read designs, such as patchworks made by Tribal seamstresses. The silhouettes and most images I use are from photographs of actual Tribal people, which allows me to keep that resilient spirit of those then and now, alive in my own way.

                                                                                                                                         Thank You,

                                                                                                                                                          -W.B.
